Earning a Colony Varsity Letter recognizes commitment to our standardsand meaningful contribution to the varsity program. The head coach, in consultation with the Athletic Director, is the final authority on all awards.
To be considered, a player must be on the varsity roster and complete the season.
Academic Eligibility
Maintain eligibility for the entire season per Colony High School/ASD policy.
Attendance
Attend ≥90% of all practices, meetings, and contests unless excused (school-approved absence, illness/injury cleared by staff, family emergency communicated to staff). Make-ups may be assigned at coach’s discretion.
Team Citizenship
Consistently demonstrate positive effort and attitude, follow team rules and training expectations, and contribute to team culture and success (“Protect the C”).
Game Participation
Participate in at least 9 quarters of varsity game play (≈ one quarter of a standard 9-game regular season). Postseason quarters count toward the total.
Role Contribution (coach discretion)
Be a consistent contributor—including special teams roles, packages, or key backup responsibilities that impact preparation and game day.
Injury Provision (coach discretion)
Players who are sidelined after the first half of the season or who met minimum participation prior to a season-ending injury may be awarded a letter by the head coach in consultation with the Athletic Director.
Senior Exception (coach discretion)
Seniors demonstrating exceptional program dedication (e.g., four years of service, leadership, and PRIDE standards) may receive a letter even if another criterion is narrowly missed.
Attendance is calculated from postion coaches attenance reports. Tardies are counted as absence unless excused. Repeated unexcused absences can disqualify a player.
Quarters are recorded from varsity game film - players should track played games and quarters personally and report to the head coach totals.
Violations of school, district, AASA, or team conduct policies may affect lettering status.
Academic or training-rule ineligibility that spans a significant portion of the season may disqualify a player.
Team managers and student athletic trainers can be recognized with a Manager Letter determined by the coach and Athletic Director.
Players with questions about their status should speak directly with their position coach first, then the head coach. Once approached, the position coach and head coach will discuss and respond in writing to the player on the appeal of the reason to accept or deny the decision
Varsity Award Certificates are typically presented at the end-of-season banquet after final review of academics, attendance, participation logs, and coach evaluations. Varsity letters and pins can be picked up in the Activities Office of Colony High School during school hours.
Our goal: reward athletes who consistently show up, lift up their teammates, and make Colony Football better—on the field, in the classroom, and in our community. Protect the C.
