PRIDE

The Meaning of PRIDE

The philosophy of PRIDE is rooted deep in the foundation of Colony Football. Developed by Coaches Randy Magner, Mike Boyd, and Jamie Mayo, PRIDE became the heartbeat of our team culture during the early days of the program. It stands for:

  • Perfection – Strive for excellence in every rep, every play, every day. While perfection may never be achieved, the pursuit of it elevates performance and commitment. This concept is at the heart of the 'Win Today' philosophy, popularized by sports leaders and programs across the country. It teaches athletes to focus not on a distant, perfect outcome—but on being their best in the present moment. Winning today means doing the little things right: showing up, giving your all, listening, learning, and improving one play at a time. When a player commits to winning today, every day, they build the habits that lead to excellence—and that’s what Colony Football is all about.

  • Respect – Show respect to your teammates, coaches, opponents, referees, and the game itself. True leaders carry themselves with dignity on and off the field. As Coach Bum Phillips succinctly put it: “Respect all. Fear none.” This mindset fosters a culture of mutual respect and unwavering confidence, both essential qualities for success on and off the field.

  • Intensity – Approach each drill, workout, and game with unmatched focus and energy. Intensity sets the tone and defines how Colony competes. Intensity is also at the core of our team motto: HIT HARD. But 'Hit Hard' isn’t just about physical contact. It’s how we approach the game—with relentless energy, total commitment, and the refusal to quit. It means playing every down with purpose, never backing down from a challenge, and getting up every time you're knocked down. It’s about setting a tone that says: Colony Football doesn’t just show up—we bring the fight.

  • Discipline – Do the right thing even when no one is watching. From attending workouts on time to executing your assignments, discipline builds consistency and trust. Coaches expect players to be disciplined, but it's just as important that players hold each other accountable. If we are not disciplined as a team, we will fall apart. Only together—as one united group—can we move forward and achieve our goals. Discipline is the glue that binds our effort, focus, and commitment. As Nick Saban once said: "Discipline is doing what you’re supposed to do, when you’re supposed to do it, the way it’s supposed to be done. Do it that way all the time."

  • Enthusiasm – Bring energy and passion to everything you do. A positive attitude fuels the team and makes the grind worthwhile. One person having fun is good—but when the whole team is having fun, it's contagious. Enthusiasm spreads. A great example of this is seen in stadiums around the world during a wave—what starts as a few fans standing becomes a whole arena united in motion. That kind of shared energy transforms the atmosphere. When a team practices and plays with shared enthusiasm, every player feeds off that momentum. It becomes a culture that lifts everyone. This enthusiasm, both from players and the community, is what brings Colony Football to life.
